If you've ever had a number of programs all running at once and then switched to each one individually in order to close them, using either the File/Close menu or by clicking the X in each case, then you'll appreciate this tip:

The next time you want to close a program that is running in the background, move your mouse to the Taskbar located at the bottom of your screen.

Then right-mouse-click over any program that you want to shut down and simply choose "Close" from the resulting drop-down menu.

Alternatively, if the program you want to close is currently the "active" one on screen, then simply hold down the ALT key and then press the F4 key.
